The founder of the Progressive Riojan Party, the germ of the current PR, and former general secretary of UCD-Rioja, Francisco Díaz Yubero, died this Friday, according to sources close to him, who describe him as one of the most dynamic politicians La Rioja has ever had, as well as being a well-known name in the world of wine. Born in Madrid, although a ‘Riojan’ since his youth, Díaz Yubero was also one of the founders of the Social Democratic Party of La Rioja. He was also a member of the Parliament of La Rioja in the first legislature, in the years 1983-87, in which the PR obtained two seats, one occupied by him and the other by Rodríguez Moroy.
This agricultural engineer has also been an institution in the world of viticulture in La Rioja. He carried out numerous studies related to the wine sector and the agri-food industry. Between 1997 and 2008 he was a researcher at the University of La Rioja in the Department of Agriculture and Food. But he not only stood out in the academic world, he also did so in the wine sector as one of the most influential scholars. He worked in different wineries, but it was at Bodegas de Campoviejo where he held important positions of responsibility.
