Correos de Cuba reports on a new modality of electronic commerce

The Correos de Cuba Business Group (GECC) and the General Customs of the Republic (AGR) work together to “reboost cross-border electronic commerce in the country.”

As part of this strategic alliance, both institutions carry out various “coordination actions between their managers and training of their staff,” as they announced in a note recent.

The main objective of this agreement is to “shorten the distances” between international operators and suppliers and their clients inside and outside Cuba.

To achieve this, the text specifies, several coordination, organizational communication and training tasks have been conceived.

Operation of the Public Warehouse in the EMCYo

According to the information offered, once the necessary conditions have been created, the “Public Warehouse modality” will be implemented in the facilities of the International Messaging and Exchange Company (EMCI).

This warehouse will allow the marketing within the country and abroad of “various high-demand products intended for cross-border electronic commerce.”

The commercialization of this merchandise will be carried out through the Global Customs Declaration system. This will allow Correos de Cuba to “nationalize the goods and carry out the postal and integrated logistics operations necessary to deliver them to customers.”

Benefits for electronic commerce in Cuba

Both Correos de Cuba and the General Customs of the Republic hope that the process of buying and selling products online will be facilitated, both for national and international customers.

In October 2022, the state-owned company advertisement the implementation of “a new electronic route” so that Cubans abroad could buy combos and send them to the island.

The Director of Marketing and Business of the Correos de Cuba Business Group stated on that occasion that the packages would include products such as personal hygiene, medicines, food, school supplies and appliances.

“Once purchased from abroad on the platforms of our partners (virtual stores), they are distributed and delivered in our postal network, based on the treatment that is given today to an express shipment, since these products are found in our temporary warehouses in customs in Cuba”, added.
