Dengue cases increase in Antioquia: Government calls for urgent prevention – ContraRéplica

NotiPress

The Government of Antioquia expressed its concern about the growing number of dengue cases in the department, with an urgent call to the community to take effective preventive measures.

According to official information, as of June 13, 2024, 6,592 cases of dengue have been recorded, of which 54 have been classified as serious, with 87% of those affected requiring hospitalization.

The Aburrá Valley, Urabá and Bajo Cauca are the areas of greatest attention for health authorities, highlighting that these areas concentrate the majority of cases and the 13 possible deaths attributed to the virus this year. Dora Arcia, Undersecretary of Public Health, emphasized the importance of eliminating mosquito breeding sites as a fundamental measure to prevent more fatalities.

“Among the regions with the highest incidence are the Aburrá Valley, with a critical focus in Medellín, as well as Urabá and Bajo Cauca, where the Epidemiological Surveillance Program has confirmed the 13 fatal cases,” declared Arcia.

The authorities have intensified control and surveillance efforts in these areas, urging the population to actively collaborate in eliminating containers that may accumulate stagnant water, an environment conducive to the reproduction of the transmitting mosquito.
