The La Portada natural monument is an area of rocky cliffs facing the beach, overlooking a large natural arch of marine sediments that gives the landmark its name. Multiple seabirds such as pelicans or seagulls live there, and the presence of endangered species like the Humboldt penguin or chungungos.
It is a place frequently threatened by the presence of feral dogs that attack marine fauna, the accumulation of garbage and even the illegal guano extraction from the cliffs.
