Request to improve detention conditions in the province
The Court of Guarantees of Monte Caseros granted a corrective and collective habeas corpus filed after noticing inhumane conditions in which people deprived of liberty were found in a cell for offenders.
The Court of Guarantees of Monte Caseros, resolved to grant the corrective and collective habeas corpus presented by the Committee for the Prevention of Torture of Corrientes.
The action was filed due to the inhuman conditions in which the Persons Deprived of Liberty (PPL) were found in the offenders’ cell of the First District Police Station of Monte Caseros.
Dr. Alegre’s ruling, in response to the request of the Local Mechanism, orders the head of the First District Police Station of Monte Caseros to take the necessary measures to improve detention conditions.
Specifically, it is provided that those detained for contraventional issues have access to an outdoor space, with due custody, and within thirty days, access to showers with hot water and other related basic needs.
The resolution underlines the importance of guaranteeing decent and humane detention conditions, in accordance with legal and human rights standards.
From the Corrientes Torture Prevention Committee, meanwhile, it was noted that the organization will continue to monitor the implementation of these measures to ensure their effective compliance, and the importance of the judicial ruling in line with the commitment to human rights was highlighted.
