In the heart of the province of Tucumánjust 25 kilometers west of the capital, is a small corner that seems taken from another country: Villa Nougués. This picturesque town, surrounded by hills and jungle, is the ideal place for a weekend getaway that promises tranquility, natural beauty and a glimpse into the region’s history.

The journey through the Yungas

To get to Villa Nougués, a journey begins that is in itself an experience. Starting from the town of Yerba Buena, it begins a route that winds between the yungas and the most humid hills of the province of Tucumán. Every bend in the road reveals stunning landscapes, with the lush vegetation of the jungle as a backdrop.

As the path ascends, visitors are greeted by the majesty of Christ the Redeemer on the top of San Javier Hill, from where they can appreciate the immensity of the city of San Miguel de Tucumán. This is a perfect place to stop and watch the sky-defying flights of paragliders and hang gliders.

Villa Nougués: a corner with history

Once in Villa Nougués, the hills close and the clouds wrap around the horizon, creating a magical atmosphere. Among the dense trees of the yunga, buildings and old mansions begin to appear that bear witness to the historical past of the place.

The history of Villa Nougués dates back to 1899, when engineer Luis F. Nougués, sugar industrialist and prominent regional leader, built his summer home in this beautiful corner. From its first years, the town acquired a magic and mystique that lasts to this day. The inhabitants tell stories of mysterious characters who seem to fly over the roofs of the residences.

The Villa Nougués inn: founding stone of a town

In the heart of Villa Nougués there is an inn that houses the founding stone of the town placed symbolically by Luis Nougués in 1903. Most of the residences in the town belong to members of the Nougués family or close friends, since the stable population of the town It has barely 120 inhabitants.

Visitors can explore the Grotto of the Virgin of Lourdes, cross the picturesque suspension bridge and visit the People’s Chapel, which was inaugurated in 1904 and is an iconic location for weddings and religious events. In addition, the traditional Villa Nougués golf course attracts enthusiasts from all over the country when tournaments and matches are held.
