On June 7, the “legislative blockade” to manage a possible Seventh Withdrawal of AFP funds in Congress concluded. Therefore, all the respective bills could begin their processing.

A little over a year ago, the legal initiative regarding a sixth withdrawal was rejected in the Chamber of Deputies. However, in all this time, five proposals emerged insisting on a rescue of the money in the workers’ individual capitalization accounts.

The projects

The first two proposals were presented by Congressman Enrique Lee. It seeks a constitutional reform that allows 15% of the funds to be taken out for free access, along with 50% if the destination of these funds is for the acquisition of the first home.

The other project corresponds to the vice president of the Chamber of Deputies, Gaspar Rivas. He proposed a withdrawal of 10% of pension funds for all uses. “We have no legitimacy to prevent Chileans from deciding what to do with the money from their own efforts,” he stated at the time.

The fourth initiative is from deputy Pamela Jiles, of the Humanist Party. It is similar to the previous project and aims to withdraw up to 10% and affiliates with up to 1 million in the account will be able to withdraw the total amount of money.

The last project is known as the “self-loan” project. It was presented by the former member of the People’s Party, deputy Rubén Oyarzo. He is seeking a withdrawal of up to 5 million pesos.
