The Ibagué Metropolitan Police has deployed 1,048 uniformed personnel in the capital, while the Sixth Brigade of the National Army has assigned 120 troops to Ibagué and another 120 to cover the municipalities of Tolima.

Police reinforcement

The Secretariat of Citizen Coexistence, Security and Public Order has detailed the Strategic Security Plan for these holidays. «In the parades we will have the support of about 450 men, distributed at intervals of two to three meters, along with logistics personnel. In addition, we will have a police presence at popular venues and various events. For the first time, a battalion of urban special forces of the Army will provide direct support to the Policethus guaranteeing the safety of Ibagué«explained Guillermo Alvira, Secretary of Citizen Coexistence, Security and Public Order.

The municipalities of Tolima will also see a significant increase in police presence:

  • El Espinal: 110 police officers for 40 events.
  • Melgar: 100 police officers for 3 events.
  • Guamo: 140 police officers for 29 events.
  • Purification: 20 police officers for 26 events.
  • Dolores: 20 police officers for 22 events.
  • Natagaima: 40 police officers for 20 events.
  • Coyaima: 20 police officers for 38 events.
  • Ortega: 30 police officers for 12 events.
  • San Juan Valley: 20 police officers for 36 events.

Road surveillance and air support

Security on the department’s roads will be under the surveillance of the Colombian Air Force, which will carry out controls and surveillance from the air. Besides, 30 men from the Cobra group and 60 motorized vehicles from the Centurión group will ensure the peace of mind of travelers.

With this robust security plan, the Government of Tolima and local security forces are preparing to ensure peaceful and safe folkloric festivities for everyone.
