Those who know the economy are certain that companies are the engine of any economy, since they generate the country’s wealth and job creation. Recently, The Superintendence of Companies (SuperSociedades) revealed its well-known report on the 1,000 largest companies in Colombia, in which Bogotá and Antioquia stood out.

SuperSociedades highlighted that the report was prepared taking into account the financial information as of December 31, 2023, which made it possible to identify trends in the state of the financial situation with respect to assets, liabilities, equity, statement of comprehensive income and financial ratios.
Billy Escobar Pérez, Superintendent of Companies, maintained that a growth of 7.9% is evident among the 1,000 companies classified as the largest for the year 2022 and 2023. 64% of the losses are concentrated in the services sector, accumulated mainly in the health and telecommunications subsectors.
On the other hand, The Mining and Hydrocarbons sector was affected by the decrease in the price of a barrel of oil, which was 17% less than the average recorded in 2022, as well as by the effect of the revaluation, which caused a decrease in its income. and equity due to the recognition of the conversion difference. However, gains were maintained in this sector.
The biggest
The report reveals that Ecopetrol does not give up the throne as the largest company in national territory. In fact, the company obtained operating income of $129.5 billion, which meant a decrease compared to the $144.8 billion it had in 2022. A 14.7% drop in its income.
The second company is Cartagena Refinery. The Atlantic Coast company had a turnover of $32 billion in 2023, while in 2022 it recorded $27.9 billion.
The leaders in Antioquia
The Paisa region was not left behind, in fact, 172 Antioquian companies are registered in that database. The first was Public Companies Public of Medellínwhich moved $17.7 billion last year, an improvement compared to the $15 billion it obtained in 2022. This was ranked sixth nationally and is the largest company in Antioquia according to the table.
The second largest company in Paisa is Success stores, which had a turnover of $15.7 billion, 3.9% compared to the 2022 record. In the count it registered in box 8.
The third Paisa company that appears in the ranking is Seguros Sura, which was located in box 13. The company achieved operating income of $11.4 billion, which represented $2.1 billion more compared to the 2022 record.
According to the report, there are 172 Paisa companies among the 1,000 largest in Colombia. These organizations accumulate $327 billion in assets, $152 billion in liabilities, and $175 billion in equity.
According to Supersociedades, 192 companies reported losses against 2022, which meant a loss of $12.16 billion. Service companies were the ones that most represented a margin of lower billing with 77 companies, followed by those in the commerce sector with 51.
On the other hand, 804 registered a higher profitability margin, with a profit of $111.16 billion. Service and commerce once again led the ranking, both sectors with a contribution of 32 business units.
