The Attorney General’s Office opened a preliminary investigation against the Police Commander of the municipality of El Banco, Magdalena, Jonathan Valderrama, for an alleged physical and verbal attack on a woman identified as María Angélica Camargo Estrada, in the premises of a bar.

According to the complaint that reached the Public Ministry, and that was in turn disseminated in different local media of the department, on May 23, at 9:00 at night, Valderrama initially entered the bar with the uniform of Police and then he did it dressed in civilian clothes. According to the complaint, the commander had insulted the woman, who was with several people.

The testimonies also indicate that after the insults an argument began and then the commander hit the woman repeatedly. Among the evidence requested by the Attorney General’s Office is the testimony of the affected woman and a copy of her medical history, in order to know the state in which she was treated after the attack.

Likewise, the Public Ministry requested a copy of the officer’s resume and the results of the investigation being carried out by the internal disciplinary control office of the Magdalena Police Command on the case.

The name of Commander Jonathan Valderrama is not the first time that he has been involved in controversies in the municipality of El Banco. At the end of May, a journalist from the region claimed to have been threatened by the officer, after making several complaints about insecurity in the territory, something that would have bothered the commander because “it affects the image of the Police,” the complainant noted.
