The National Disaster Prevention and Response Service (Senapred) decreed a Yellow Alert for the Maule region, as a result of the possible consequences that may occur due to the frontal system, such as river flooding, among others.

Given this situation, the presidential delegate of the region, Humberto Aqueveque, spoke with Expreso Bío Bío and assured that “it is raining heavily” and warned people traveling between Constitución and Talca that “there are several fallen trees.”

Regarding the condition of the region in the face of this new meteorological phenomenon, he commented that “we found ourselves with a regional Yellow Alert, since 7:00 p.m. yesterday, in response to the meteorological alarm, heavy rainfall, winds, which we had for today.”

“It is also conformed and constituted with a Red Alert due to the risk of overflowing of the Culenar Estuary, in the communes of Sagrada Familia and San Rafael; with a Yellow Alert for risk in the Loncomilla River, in San Javier and Villa Alegre; in addition to the Yellow Alert for the communes surrounding the Mataquito River,” he added.

Likewise, he pointed out that “so far we have not had major effects due to river overflows. “The main damage has been due to estuaries and canals in our region.”

On the other hand, Aqueveque maintained that “we have two health services that are not working.” As for those sheltered, there would be 17 families that are in that condition.

Also, the presidential delegate of the Maule region stated that the risk of overflowing the Mataquito River “is one of our main monitoring points.”

“Until now, the level of altitude and strength of the flow, of all the rivers in general in the Maule region, have not passed the yellow threshold,” he continued.
