Kazan.- CUBA was present at the meeting of Brics sports ministers, held this Saturday on the eve of the closing of the sports games called by this economic bloc and attended by more than five thousand competitors from 90 countries.

José Cedeño Tamayo, general director of Physical Education and sports for all at Inder, thanked in his speech for the invitation to this plenary session, as well as for having attended the contest with wushu teams, and the physical modalities of basketball and futsal.

Among the fundamental topics discussed at the meeting were the greater incorporation of countries into the games; achieve unity and strengthen cooperation ties, as well as expand options to offer more possibilities to compete.

“In the current context, the role of the Brics is increasing in the promotion of global issues, also in sports, an association that continues to be an example of authentic multilateralism and mutual respect,” said Cedeño Tamayo.

He referred to the fact that Cuba systematically defends the comprehensive strengthening of sporting and friendly ties with Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa – member countries of the Brics group – on the basis of equality, non-discrimination, mutual respect and equal access of athletes to competitions.

The Inder director recalled that the role of Physical Education and sports is fundamental, as it increases the quality of life and prevents non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, alcoholism, drug addiction, obesity, hypertension or heart conditions, which are increasingly common.

“Physical Education and sport are key elements to promote healthy lifestyles, reduce these morbidity factors and better prepare human beings to face different challenges,” he said in his speech.

He emphasized the policy in Cuba of the practice of sports as a right of the people, as well as recreation. The State allocates considerable resources for its materialization, as well as to develop and maintain the network of institutions for sports practice.

«We have a system for sports training at all levels and particular attention has been paid to highly competitive sports. “We are willing to cooperate with our experience in those countries that request it, demonstrating the solidarity that characterizes the Cuban people,” he expressed.

Cedeño Tamayo conveyed a cordial and affectionate greeting on behalf of Osvaldo Vento Montiller, president of Inder, and the entire Cuban Sports System.
