LOGROÑO, June 23. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The At the end of last year, Rioja registered a total of 2,038 criminal offenses for computer fraud, which represents 5.3 percent less in 2022, according to the study ‘Computer fraud in Spain 2024’ by the Logalty Group.

In Spain, 426,744 computer frauds were recorded last year, 27% more than in 2022, when there were 335,995, and triple that of 2018 (136,656).

The autonomies that led this increase were Andalusia (47.6%), Region of Murcia (41.8%) and Valencian Community (40.6%). La Rioja was precisely the only one that experienced a decrease (-5.3%).

This type of cybercrime is concentrated in three autonomous regions: Community of Madrid, Catalonia and Andalusia. And the three accounted for 49% of the computer fraud detected last year in Spain – one in every two infractions of this type – which in absolute figures corresponds to 218,573 cases.

The three recorded an average of 599 frauds per day. Beyond the three, the volume of computer fraud registered in the Valencian Community (40,835 cases), the Basque Country (25,059 cases) and Castilla y León (22,642 cases) also stands out.

At the provincial level, a generalized year-on-year growth in computer fraud is also detected, with the only exception of Ourense (-13.6%) and La Rioja (-5.3%). The provinces with the highest number of daily cases are Madrid (198), Barcelona (145), Valencia (59) and Seville (47).

The analysis published by Logalty Group raises the importance of implementing technologies within organizations in the face of the wave of cyberattacks against large companies in Spain in recent months, as well as the growing computer fraud that arises from the theft and commercialization of data from private persons.

Given this situation, Logalty Group highlights five main keys for organizations to confront the rise of this type of criminal offenses in Spain:

Incorporate robust technologies aimed at data protection and verification of people’s identity, to confirm its validity in all types of transactions.

Stay up to date and continually implement the latest technological advances and updates to stay safe.

Develop privacy policies and regular audits to ensure compliance with current regulations.

Establish clear and agile action protocols to respond efficiently to possible incidents.

Raise awareness among employees within organizations about the importance of prevention and responsible management of internal corporate data.
