Cars, horses, and chocolate in San Juan

Once again, the Arnedans have demonstrated the roots that the festival of San Juan has in the town with a wide participation in the pilgrimage held on Sunday.

The main event took place this Sunday with the pilgrimage to the esplanade of the Virgin of Vico, located under the monastery. Several hundred people have come there, most of them dressed in traditional San Juan clothing: white shirt, black vest and farmers’ scarf in the case of men, and black skirt with white flowers, white shirt and scarf as the default for women. . All of them with the traditional hat.

Firstly, starting at 8:30 a.m. the participants arrived at the Plaza de Nuestra Señora de Vico from where the pilgrims’ route left after 9:15 a.m. First the riders left with their horses, then the carts pulled by tractors or vehicles. They were decorated in different ways, with branches and banners among other elements, and the companions walked behind them.

The El Emboque round was responsible for musically setting both the arrival and departure of the pilgrims performing at the Puerta Munillo. The musicians also played on the esplanade with their lively repertoire of popular songs.

The Vallaroso scout group organized the pilgrimage car contest in which there were 23 participants. Number 9 won, in the name of Sergio Villoslada. The prize was a tray with the motto of San Juan and a batch of typical Arnedan products.

The jury valued its traditional decoration and clothing as well as the animation.

Additionally, there was a horse competition with Martín and Hugo Amador as the winning riders, among the twenty who attended. They received a batch of local products.

On the other hand, as explained by the culture councilor of the Arnedano City Council, Chus Zapata, it was decided to give a special prize (pasta) to a group of young people for their outstanding entertainment during the morning.

On the esplanade of the Vico monastery, a chocolate distribution was carried out offered by the scout group in collaboration with the Asociación Mujer Actual and with music through a mobile disco.

The program ends this Monday with the distribution of chocolate by the Vallaroso scout group and the Friends of Arnedo Association, starting at 7:30 a.m.
