The South American Senior, U21, Youth and Cadet Karate Championships, which will be held from June 24 to 29 in Santa Cruz, will present an unprecedented novelty: the Para-Karate modality. For the first time in Bolivia, athletes will compete in this adapted discipline, which covers cognitive, visual and wheelchair abilities. The international competition, with the participation of 800 athletes from 11 nations, will be held in the Brazil Hall of the Fexpocruz Fair.

Para-Karate has become a reality in Bolivia thanks to the efforts of the Bolivian Karate Federation (Feboka). Kjarol Herrera, president of Feboka, highlighted that this will be the second South American Para-Karate event, after last year’s successful edition. At the Pan American level, four editions of this inclusive event have already been held.

In Santa Cruz, the three categories of Para-Karate (cognitive, visual and wheelchair) will be held in both the women’s and men’s competitions. Athletes with cognitive, visual or physical disabilities will have the opportunity to demonstrate their skills and abilities in this unique modality.

Of the 11 countries participating in the South American Championship (including Curacao), half will have representatives in Para-Karate. Chile, Paraguay, Argentina, Brazil and Ecuador will join Bolivia in this new era of adapted karate. For the host country, this event represents the starting point to promote adapted karate. The Bolivian Karate Federation has worked internally, collaborating with institutions that prepare people with various abilities.

The South American Karate Championship is about to begin. This weekend the participating delegations will arrive, while the Organizing Committee finalizes the details to receive the teams. “We hope the event is a success,” said the head of Feboka, underlining the importance of this competition for the development of karate in Bolivia.
