What happened to the driver

In the midst of the dismay over the tragic accident, details became known about the judicial situation of the driver involved. Carlos Óscar Bonada was arrested immediately after the accident. The Traffic Prosecutor Fernando Giunta, in charge of the investigation, ordered his arrest due to the obvious recklessness.

The experts determined that he tried to overtake another vehicle without noticing that it was going to turn left. In his evasive maneuver, and at excessive speed, he lost control and climbed onto the sidewalk, running over Julieta and her son. “The reckless maneuver and excessive speed were the determining factors of the accident,” said a judicial source.

Initially, the accused was charged with “culpable homicide aggravated by recklessness.” However, in recent days the man regained his freedom after paying bail of one million pesos. The authorities justified this decision due to his advanced age and his state of health, since he needs an oxygen mask; Furthermore, he has no criminal record. “The crime is releaseable and no alcohol was detected in his body,” the source explained.

Bonada’s release generated outrage among the victims’ relatives, who already have a lawyer from the Public Prosecutor’s Office. Likewise, they will gather this Monday at 3 p.m. at the entrance to the Judicial Center to demonstrate, while the case continues to clarify the facts and determine the responsibilities of the person involved.
