The second edition of the meeting will take place on June 25 and 26 in Cipolletti, Río Negro. Our Upper Valley is important because it is a fruit-producing region and bees play an essential role in pollination.

More than 45 Beekeepers from different parts of Neuquén will participate in the second edition of the Federal Beekeeping Meeting, organized by the Federal Investment Council (CFI) and the Province of Río Negro.

The event, to be held on June 25 and 26 at the Cipolletti Cultural Complex (Fernández Oro 57), will be a space to promote innovation, new technologies and market strategies in the beekeeping production chain.

On Tuesday the 25th, the session of the National Beekeeping Council will be held with the participation of all the provinces and a business round, while on Wednesday the 26th, the technical conference will be held with different thematic blocks on productive and organizational innovation; productive diversification and value addition; pollination and agrosystems; business opportunities and strategies.

Nancy García, representative of the Beekeeping Program of the PyME-ADENEU Center, commented that “this space encourages exchange between producers from different parts of the country and is a showcase to learn about innovations in some important topics for the region.”

He also announced that “Neuquino beekeepers will be able to link up with buyers of bulk and fractionated honey, through business rounds, to offer their products.”

From the government of the province of Neuquén, through the Provincial Beekeeping Program, technical assistance and training is provided to beekeepers throughout the province and to 20 establishments dedicated to the processing and extraction of honey, with a focus on the quality of production and processing of honey to differentiate it in the market.

The first edition of the Federal Beekeeping Meeting, held in Chaco, focused on working together in the development of strategies to add value to production and innovate in technologies that enhance the exportable offer of Argentine beekeeping. For the Neuquén beekeepers who participated in the business rounds it was very important because they began to negotiate their honey with buyers from inside and outside the country.

The event is organized by the CFI which, as an organization of the Argentine provinces, promotes the strengthening of strategic productive sectors for sustainable and federal development.

In the international market, Argentina is a very important player as a global exporter of honey, a product considered to be of animal origin and rated as one of the best quality in the world. The use of any type of additive or chemical substances is prohibited in our country.

The beekeeping sector in Neuquén

It develops throughout the province. The provincial government works to support current beekeeping projects, processing establishments and promote the addition of value for the commercialization of production.

On average, and depending on weather conditions, between 300 and 500 tons of honey are harvested per season, which are processed, and a portion fractionated, in establishments dedicated to the extraction and packaging of honey, distributed in different locations in Neuquén.

Value is also added with the production of living material and the preparation of products derived from the hive such as propolis, mead, wax, among other byproducts, and work is being done to optimize the fruit tree pollination service.
