The health authorities inSanta Marta is on alert due to the 398 cases related to denguereported by the Ministry of Health.

According to the epidemiological behavior in week number 24, the district is in a situation of alert, compared to the behavior of the same weeks between the years 2019 to 2023, in which it had been reported on average353 total cases of dengueAccording to the Ministry of Health, there is a difference in45 cases above in this year 2024.

Given this situation, the health authorities in Santa Marta called to follow the recommendations to eradicate the present cases and avoidfuture infections.

It should be noted that, at the national level, 185,751 cases have been reported to date, with the district of Santa Marta having a contribution from0.2% of total Dengue casesbeing below the national average and the incidence presented by the cities ofCartagenaandBarranquilla.

The district health secretariat also announced that different prevention and control activities have been developed to counteract and eradicate thedengueheChikungunyaand theZikathrough the programvector-borne diseases(ETV), which is advanced by the health secretary.

The Secretary of Health of Santa Marta, Jorge Lastra, indicated that “chemical control of mosquito larvae must be carried outIn the different neighborhoods of the Santa Marta District, it is also recommended to frequently change the water in animal waterers and flower vases.

The health authority assured that, “chemical control of dengue vectors was carried out in the different neighborhoods of Santa Marta, and we were able to treat243 water tanksand thirteen commercial establishments were also visited where we gave recommendations for the eradication of the disease.”

At least 499 homes in the neighborhoods of localities 1, 2 and 3 of Santa Marta, where 2,110 citizens live, were instructed to implement protective practices and identify possible breeding sites for the dengue mosquito, known asAedes aegypti.
