Jesús Figari, regional director of Labor of Valparaíso, and Andrés Ahumada, professor at the University of Valparaíso, were the speakers at the ninth session of the Trade Union School 2024 of the School of Law of the University of Valparaíso. The conference was titled “Role of the Labor Directorate in matters of collective law”, and was moderated by Kotte Rosas, UV student and member of the Union School.
In his presentation, Jesús Figari explained the role of the Labor Directorate at different moments of the collective bargaining process, as well as the type of assistance that the entity can provide to union organizations, depending on the stage in which they are within of the negotiation.
For his part, Andrés Ahumada made reference to the functions of the Labor Directorate in accordance with the legislation, to then analyze its effectiveness in relation to the information provided by the entity itself. Finally, he focused on the way in which these functions can be used as tools in collective bargaining processes, for the development of strategies by union organizations.
The Trade Union School is an initiative organized by students of the Law School in coordination with the Department of Labor and Social Security Law, which seeks to offer a free and excellent training space for union leaders and workers interested in training in the subject. which resumed its activities after its suspension due to the pandemic.
The next session of the Union School will take place on Tuesday, June 25, from 6:00 p.m., in the Aula Magna Victorio Pescio Vargas of the Faculty of Law, Errázuriz 2120, Valparaíso. The speakers will be Jesús Figari, regional director of Labor of Valparaíso; Matías Rodríguez, professor at the University of Valparaíso, and Rachel Aránguiz, coordinator of Labor Relations of the Regional Directorate of Labor. In the instance, they will refer to the topic “Fundamental rights in the employment relationship.”
