According to the source, the Ministry of Agriculture on the island, the FAO and the EU join forces in the effort, belonging to the project “Pilot, horizontal models of knowledge management and technology transfer in Agroecology” (MAS-DeSIRA) .

On this occasion, they hope to strengthen productive units in the municipalities of Güira de Melena (Artemisa), Güines (Mayabeque), Abreus (Cienfuegos), Venezuela (Ciego de Ávila), Santiago de Cuba (in the homonymous province), San Antonio del Sur (Guantánamo) and the special municipality of the Isle of Youth, the press release states.

According to FAO, the MAS-DeSIRA project promotes practices for the efficient use of water and encourages innovation in the agricultural sector, with emphasis on the production of food and seeds, as well as strengthening the resilience of communities in the face of change. climate.

In relation to the work aspects, the United Nations organization also appreciated the investments for the capture and storage of rainwater, the promotion of crop rotation and the use of varieties adapted to the country’s conditions.

The ongoing efforts, he added, also promote planting at optimal times and on contour lines, the use of organic fertilizers and the incorporation of organic matter into the soil, among other effective measures to guarantee responsible and sustainable use of water resources in the Agriculture.
