Governor of Valle announced the purchase of signal inhibitors for drones in the face of the violent escalation of dissidents

The governor of Valle, Dilian Francisca Toro, announced this Wednesday the purchase of technological devices that help counteract the terrorist attacks that criminal groups have been carrying out against the department and the region through the use of drones.

“We are going to buy technological equipment to be able to inhibit signals from these drones, we are already in that process. The Army and the Police are going to tell us which is the most suitable technological device to be able to buy it and we are going to acquire it as an emergency, because we cannot wait for them to buy it from the Ministry of Defense“said Toro.

The president pointed out that, although help has been received from the National Government in strengthening the force, more support is needed in logistical, technological and social issues.

“We cannot wait for who knows how long, while they are throwing grenades at us from a drone and that affects our civilian population.”, then we are going to acquire them (the technological devices). It is also urgent that the National Government takes decisions such as intervening in the illegal road built by armed groups that passes through Jamundí, as well as preventing illegal gasoline stations from continuing to operate. In addition, we need more social investment and develop programs to replace illegal economies,” said the governor.

The announcement coincides with the launch of a pilot security plan promoted by the regional president to confront the growing violence in the region.

The objective of this plan is to recover security in the rural area of Jamundí and the surrounding territories north of Cauca where there has been an uptick in violence in recent years.

The governor also sent a letter to President Gustavo Petro asking for a personal audience to address the security problems of her department, burdened by FARC dissidents, drug trafficking and crime.

We consider – added the president – that the situation warrants “that all sectors of society listen to each other, with the aim of coordinating actions and combating crime.”

“In this purpose we have joined together with representatives of civil society, the Church, economic unions, senators and representatives to the Chamber, young people, women, mayors, merchants, businessmen, academia, deputies, councilors and leaders of the communities of African descent, who consider it urgent to implement a Comprehensive Security Plan for the Colombian Southwest, which is led by you as responsible for national public order,” he expressed.
