What happened?

The Chilean Foreign Minister Alberto Van Klaveren and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iceland, Thórdis Kolbrún Reykfjörd Gylfadóttirsigned this Monday a memorandum of understanding of Working Holiday between both countries.

The signing of the memorandum took place in Geneva, Switzerland, framed in the 60 years of diplomatic relations between Chile and Iceland. Furthermore, Van Klaveren signed the modernization of the Free Trade Agreement with the countries of the European Free Trade Association (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland).

The Foreign Ministry points out that the signing of the Working Holiday memorandum of understanding with Iceland “marks an important milestone in strengthening bilateral relations“.

This instrument will allow “Establish a work-holiday program for young people from both nations that allows them to have a better understanding of the culture, society and languages ​​of the other country.

What will be the requirements?

To access this new Working Holiday, applicants must be nationals of Chile or Iceland and to have between 18 and 30 years old at the time of application.

The number of beneficiaries of this visa will be determined annually by both countries and may be granted for a maximum of two consecutive 12-month periodsthat is, up to two years.

The Entry into force of this agreement will be when both countries inform the other that “internal requirements for implementation were met“.
