As a result of the collaborative work between the Museum of Fine Arts of Valparaíso and Duoc UC Headquarters Valparaíso, the restoration of the molding of the work “On the banks of the Vienne” by the French artist Paul Desiré Trouillebert was carried out, which was in charge of the students of the Restoration of Heritage Assets degree, Almendra Araya and Francisca García, who officially presented said painting to the Executive Director of the Baburizza Museum, Rafael Torres.

The delivery was made official in a ceremony led by the Director of Duoc UC Sede Valparaíso, Claudio Salas, during noon on Monday, June 24. The activity took place in the Wood Workshop of the Cousiño Building Extension Center, and was also attended by the Director of the Course, Carmen Gómez Maestros, along with students who were able to learn about the details of their classmates’ degree portfolio. .

The activity began with the words of Claudio Salas, who referred to the alliance between these two important institutions in Valparaíso. “For us, from the field of professional technical education, this union is very relevant, because we are contributing to the tremendous work that is done by the museum in the protection of history and the enhancement of the heritage and cultural legacy of our city, which “It is a great responsibility,” said the Director of Duoc UC Sede Valparaíso.

Likewise, he added “that the museum has the generosity and trust in our students and that it makes its pieces available and that they can be worked on within the academic and training work, guided by the teachers, that speaks of the seriousness of the work that is done in Duoc UC Headquarters Valparaíso. In that sense, we hope to continue collaborating with the museum, supporting their restoration and care work within their work, contributing to the student training process.”

“We are very happy to receive the restoration work that a duo of students from the Duoc Restoration and Heritage Property program have done, on a work from the Barbizon School, it is a classic, European molding that arrived in our country a long time ago. almost a century, that today we see it in its most original state that can be had after the passage of time. It has been cleaned and repaired very professionally and dedicatedly. The students have put a special effort into it and we are very grateful to Duoc Valparaíso for this virtuous relationship that we have, which allows us to better present the collection of the city’s Museum of Fine Arts to the community,” said Rafael Torres, director of the Museum. Baburizza.

After the speeches, the presentation of the restored wooden piece took place, which was complemented by the explanation of the students, who detailed that the intervention considered the reincorporation of plaster pieces of the molding, the repair of breaks and the reintegration of polychromy, which was carried out after a rigorous study based on available documentation.

Meanwhile, they added that “a general cleaning of the piece was carried out, which allowed all contaminating agents on the surface to be removed and thus its original materialities to shine. Subsequently, the consolidation of the strata that guarantee the adhesion of the decorative elements to the support and the cracked areas was carried out, as well as the integration of missing volumes, concluding that “for the chromatic reintegration in the case of the areas that had “The gilding finish was lost, criteria such as compatibility of materials, reversibility of intervention and respect for the work and its aesthetic integrity were taken into account.”
