The Colombian National Team debuted with a 2-1 victory over Paraguay in the 2024 Copa América, a result that leaves it as the leader of group D and taking an important step towards its first objective: qualification for the quarterfinals.
Coach Néstor Lorenzo made his debut as a coach in the oldest national team competition, and achieved what José Pékerman could not with Colombia.
Lorenzo entered Colombian history in all his participations in the Copa América, and made six footballers debut in the competition.

1- Six players debuted in the Copa América: Johan Mojica, Richard Ríos, Jhon Arias, Kevin Castaño, Juan Fernando Quintero and Jhon Córdoba.

2- Two players from the same team scored a goal: Daniel Muñoz and Jefferson Lerma scored, being teammates in Crystal Palace (England). It had not happened since 20 years ago, when Colombia beat Costa Rica 2-0 with goals from Tressor Moreno and Abel Aguilar, who played for Deportivo Cali.
3- An undefeated team was lost: Paraguay’s goal ended a streak of three clean sheets in their Copa América debut.

It took 15 games to see the National Team scoring twice in the first 45 minutes; The last time was June 7, 2016 [Copa Centenario, en Estados Unidos]against Paraguay (Carlos Bacca [12’] and James Rodríguez [30’]).
5- Néstor Lorenzo debuted in the Copa América with victory… not even Pékerman could. With the victory over Paraguay, the coach became the seventh Colombian coach in history to debut with a Cup victory.
