From the Departmental Disaster Risk Management Secretariat they reported that, initially, a backhoe loader or “pajarita” to carry out intervention work that allowed a temporary road to be enabled between the township of San José de Castro, the San Miguel village and its surroundings, specifying that maintenance and collapse removal work has also been carried out in several affected points.

Likewise, they detailed that, thanks to the work of two caterpillar backhoes have managed to intervene in several vulnerable points in the Arboledas River, near the homes surrounding the riverbank, machinery with which it was possible to enable the another temporary route between San José de Castro and Arboledas.

“There were two steps and both have already been enabled, at the moment the river is being channeled because it left the channel, so we are returning it to its initial cause in several sections, all of this with the support of the Government and Risk Management” said Álvaro Carrillo, mayor of Arboledas.

The president pointed out that taking into account that these are provisional steps, it is most likely that must submit a petition to the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management, to request resources to build walls in areas where there was a total loss of banking and ensure that passage on the road is safe and enable definitive routes.

Regarding the affected families, the mayor pointed out that the municipality assumed the payment of rental subsidies for those who lost everything, highlighting that they have also provided support with markets and other elements.

“The truth is there have been many people collaborating with donations of clothing, markets, mats and we as a municipality too, as well as the Government, so we have more markets saved that we have not delivered yet so as not to finish them too quickly, but rather to take them little by little to the families, because there are those who did not lose their homes, but they were left without crops, belongings and what helped them to sustain themselves on a daily basis,” said the mayor.
