Cuba plans to attend Paris 2024 with the third smallest Olympic delegation after 1959, with a figure lower than the number of athletes who went to Tokyo 2020.

The island hopes to complete a number of athletes around 60 out of 61, since there are still places up for grabs in the last days of June.

Currently, Cuba has 46 athletes in 14 sports already qualified for Paris 2024, but there are 15 possibilities of achieving a place before the 30th, when the classification systems close.

Alexander Reyes: “they told me it was Olympic bronze, even though I had been a substitute”

According to José Antonio Miranda Carrera, general director of High Performance at INDER, the greatest remaining possibilities focus “on athletics, diving with one possibility; swimming (2) and confirmation of judo with 4 athletes (2 male and 2 female).”

In addition, the projection is to reach a total of 16 sports, although without the participation of team sports, since men’s volleyball could not qualify.

In this way, if it finished around 60 athletes, Cuba would have the third smallest Olympic delegation after 1959, only above Rome 1960 and Tokyo 1964.

IBA will award cash to Olympic boxing medalists, coaches and Federation
