As reported by Katherine Velarde, head of the Health Infrastructure Maintenance Department, the work focuses on the repair of the false ceiling and is estimated to be completed in a maximum period of two to three days.

“We ask the population for patience,” said Velarde, while ensuring that public service has not been completely suspended. “Two areas have been enabled in the Senior Center, which is next door, to attend to patients who require medical consultation,” he indicated.

Other needs

The collapse of the roof of the El Buen Samaritano health center once again revealed the precarious conditions in which public health centers operate in Santa Cruz.

Rocío Rivero, spokesperson for the Federation of Medical Branches of Public Health (Fesirmes), pointed out that lack of proper maintenance and The shortage of basic supplies such as syringes, sutures, medical equipment and medications are recurring problems that affect the quality of care provided to patients.

Added to this is the situation of security and cleaning companies, which are on strike due to non-payment of their services by the municipality.

“Two months ago they appointed the new Health Director, but apparently she still does not take responsibility for her position,” criticized Rivero, who described the situation as a “abandonment“by the municipal authorities.

“You cannot expect to provide quality care in these conditions,” he said.
