According to the Colombian Geological Service (SGC), the earthquake It occurred at 2:03 p.m. and its epicenter was the municipality of Carmen del Darién (Curbaradó) – Chocó

“The Android Earthquake Alert System is a free service that detects earthquakes around the world and can alert Android users before movement begins in areas”says the company statement.
How does it work?
This Google technology works with seismographs based on the information of the accelerometers and sensors built into smartphones.
When the accelerometer of a mobile device detects ground movement produces an alert to the system Google and, subsequently, the servers are in charge of verifying through a nearby cell phone network whether said alert is real or false, if it’s real A notification will be sent to the devices to warn.
It should be noted that for the detection to be valid and the company to avoid errors, the Google algorithm searches for all probable locations and magnitudes.
“We saw the opportunity to use Android to provide people with timely and useful information about earthquakes when they use Google search, and a few seconds warning so that they and their loved ones are safe,” adds Google.
