Thirty environmental organizations from Huila met in Ibagué for the “regional meeting to update the Colombia 2030 biodiversity action plan.” This event is preparatory to cop16 to be held in Cali in October.

Environmental leaders, women, young people, students and businessmen from Huila learned about the goals of biodiversity protection and presented their proposals. The meeting was organized by the Regional Autonomous Corporation of Alto Magdalena (CAM) and the Regional Autonomous Corporation of Tolima (CORTOLIMA), together with the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development.

At the meeting, the state of Huila’s biodiversity and the contribution of protected areas to the conservation of fauna and flora were discussed. Protected area management strategies and participatory community conservation were highlighted as pillars for the development of departmental actions that contribute to the national biodiversity plan.
