The rector of the University of Magdalena, Dr. Pablo Vera Salazar; applauded the commitment of the local administration of Guamal, located in the south of the department, which guarantees through financing the continuity of the Talento Magdalena program for the beneficiaries of that population.

Guamal was the sixth municipality on the tour of Magdalena led by the Top Director of the Alma Mater, through which access to high-quality higher education for the young people of the department was ratified.

“Thank you very much for that commitment; for making the best possible investment, which is education”said the rector of the Institution, Dr. Pablo Vera Salazar.

He added that, in his early years, he did not imagine how far he could go. However, the knowledge acquired during his professional training stages at Unimagdalena led him to dream and later materialize his dreams.

“I never thought I would be Rector of a university, I never imagined studying in Europe, being at Harvard. Education gave me that opportunity and that is why I greatly value the contribution of Guamal, which is investing in the future, which is its people. ”said Vera Salazar.

Additionally, the Rector of this Higher Education Institution called on young people from Guamal to improve themselves. “Life is never easy, but education allows the son of a laundry woman, a day laborer, to become, why not?, a president, a minister, but, above all, a better person,” he said.

For his part, the mayor of Guamal, José Luis Ramos Gómez, expressed his deep gratitude for the opportunities that the University of Magdalena offers to the students of the municipality.

“Grateful to the University of Magdalena for this space it gives to our young people, to whom I tell them to take advantage of this opportunity. Being professional gives us the guarantee of improving our living conditions with knowledge,” said Ramos Gómez.

Unimagdalena, a platform of dreams

Angélica Camargo Moreno is one of the 139 people from Guamal who have accessed the Talento Magdalena program since its creation in 2017. The young woman will be studying the seventh semester of Industrial Engineering and said she is pleased with the invaluable help she receives each semester.

“Preparing yourself professionally at the University of Magdalena is magnificent, it is a university that opens its doors to you, gives you all the tools, has incredible laboratories… the amenities are immense, the benefits of Talento Magdalena are very good,” said the student.

In turn, Rosa Beatriz Gómez Gutiérrez, mother of three beneficiary students – among them twins -, enthusiastically indicated that thanks to Talento Magdalena her children will be able to make their dream of becoming professionals come true, because in her capacity as mother and head of the family she It was difficult to pay for their children to study simultaneously.

“As a mother, I will live eternally grateful to God, to the municipality of Guamal and to the University of Magdalena, headed by the rector Pablo Vera Salazar, since it was difficult for me to educate my three teenage children and pay for three semesters at the same time.” , he claimed.

Gómez Gutiérrez emphasized that “I am a mother who heads a family, I also come from a public university and I firmly believe that education is the door that opens to achieve success.”

He pointed out that “our children are taken care of. I feel peace. They promised to take care of them and so it has been, I feel grateful, confident and happy to have given my children to the University of Magdalena because I know that they will return those beautiful beings to me, converted into excellent professionals who, I hope, return to Guamal and contribute to its growth. of this municipality.”

The sowing of Magdalena Talent bears fruit in Guamal

Of the 139 Guamal beneficiaries in Talento Magdalena, two have already graduated: Lucía Fernanda Oñate González, dentist, and Eva Sandrith Arbelaez Pérez, public accountant.

This year, 10 more will receive their professional degree at Unimagdalena in Law, Industrial Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Dentistry, Medicine and Public Accounting.

The academic programs preferred by Guamaleros covered with the benefit are: Public Accounting, Industrial Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Systems Engineering and Business Administration.
