NRG Argentina, an energy services company that operates in the Upper Río Negro Valley, joins this initiative to launch the fourth edition of the scholarship program and open a new call for applications aimed at young people who wish to study or are already studying Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Geology, Hygiene and Safety, and Sanitation and Environmental Protection at the National University of Comahue.

Bridge the gap

According to the report “Educational inequality at the higher level” by the Observatory of Argentines for Education, only 12.4% of young people from the lowest income decile pursue university studies in the country, while in the highest decile , 46% access university. This inequity is accentuated in the final years of the programs, where there is a greater concentration of students from higher-income sectors.

The joint work with prestigious institutions such as Cimientos and UNCo is having a positive impact on our community. With the young people who will join the program this year, we will reach a total of thirty scholarship holders. Periodically, these students hold meetings with our professionals, make field visits to the company’s facilities and participate in exchange spaces that enrich their training,” said Carolina Lascano, director of Communications and Institutional Relations at NRG.

For her part, Mercedes Méndez Ribas, executive director of Cimientos, commented: “It is a source of pride, and an example of good practice, that NRG, the National University of Comahue and Cimientos work in favor of educational equity for the fourth consecutive year. Thank you to this public-private articulation, some students represent the first family generation to access higher education. Education is the most powerful tool to achieve community development.

The call to apply for the financial scholarship, which will initially be $90,000 pesos per monthand personalized support, will be open until July 5. The requirements to apply include being an Argentine citizen, native or by choice, and being a resident or having been born in the Province of Río Negro and/or Neuquén.
