Alert in the Caribbean: tropical wave will affect coastal municipalities of Córdoba

The Regional Autonomous Corporation of the Sinú and San Jorge Valleys (CVS) issued an alert to the population of Córdoba, especially residents of coastal areas, regarding the approach of a tropical wave that could affect the region in the coming days.

According to reports from the National Hurricane Center, a tropical wave has been detected off the coast of Suriname, near Venezuela. This meteorological phenomenon is expected to approach the La Guajira peninsula in the next week, with a 20% probability of intensifying into a tropical storm.

The coastal municipalities of Córdoba, including San Bernardo del Viento, San Antero, Moñitos and Los Córdobas, could experience heavy rains and storm surges. This situation is part of a hurricane season that is forecast to be more active than usual due to high ocean temperatures and the La Niña phenomenon.

CVS urges municipal authorities and the coastal population to remain on high alert and take preventive measures. It is recommended to secure roofs and vulnerable structures, clean drains, prepare emergency kits and identify evacuation routes.

Authorities will continue to monitor the situation and provide regular updates. A special call is made to the community to stay informed through official channels and follow the recommendations of local and departmental authorities to guarantee their safety in the event of possible impacts of the meteorological phenomenon.
