This Wednesday, June 27, the great monument to the bullfighter César Rincón, the one who was carried on shoulders on several occasions, was started in the middle of the launch of the Transformations for Life program, that seeks to ensure that these places have other types of activities from now on. The image would be relocated.

José Luis Bohórquez, mayor of Duitama, assured that “Here we are not destroying, we are removing the sculpture of the bullfighters that was here, because a space that is going to accelerate life, theater, sports and rural spaces and so on, well, it does not match, there is no coherence with this. It’s going to be removed. We are looking with IRD and others, because the idea is that hopefully on the sides of the square there will be a space of memory.”

The spaces will undergo a transformation driven in part by the approval of the anti-bullfighting bill, which prohibits bullfighting and other related activities throughout the national territory.

Gustavo Bolívar explained what measures will be taken with the bullfighting union

“The law provides that Within three years bullfights will be definitively abolished; So, in those three years, we have to talk with the union so that they can carry out the economic reconversion and know what other activities they can dedicate themselves to, especially the people who were dedicated to caring for the bulls, etc.,” explained Gustavo Bolívar, director of Social Prosperity.

The national government will invest a total of 15,000 million pesos in different municipalities for what would be the final blow of these places that are entering the process of transformation. Meanwhile, what happened with the bullfighters’ monument generates a division of opinions among various sectors.
