The Ministry of Health (Minsa) appeared before the Congress of the Republic to report on the main actions they are implementing to bring HIV care and treatment services closer to the province of Condorcanqui, in Amazonas.
Before the Commission of Andean, Amazonian and Afro-Peruvian Peoples, Environment and Ecology of Parliament, Cristian Díaz Vélez, director of the General Directorate of Strategic Health Interventions (DGIESP)said that they have implemented various regulations focused on addressing HIV/AIDS in indigenous and Amazonian populations, where they have also been developing communication strategies with a cultural focus and health directives for the mental health care of victims of violence and members of the family group. .
“In relation to HIV prevention and control actions in Condorcanqui, Currently there are 8 comprehensive HIV care centers where simplified antiretroviral treatment is provided.Likewise, the laboratory has been implemented with two portable devices to measure CD4 and viral load monitoring, there are also 4 indigenous nursing technicians in the headwaters of the microgrids of Huampamí, Galilea, Nieva and Kinkis, in addition, a health brigade with indigenous personnel is in charge of HIV prevention and screening actions in the communities”, he asserted.

Regarding community mental health services, the official reported that currently There are 12 psychology professionals, a psychiatrist and a family doctoralso indicated that 21 social skills workshops, 85 healthy coexistence workshops and 26 interventions on the prevention of mental health risk behaviors in the family were developed, all of them with an intercultural approach.
For his part, Carlos Benites Villafane, director of the Directorate of Prevention and Control of HIV-AIDS, Sexually Transmitted Diseases and Hepatitis, stated that the Minsa is managing financing to deploy a greater number of HIV brigades.
“In July we will enter with three brigades to deploy screenings to the intervened communities. In addition, the design of the intervention is being improved, for which there is a group of anthropologists and doctors in the field validating the model of comprehensive HIV care in the Awajún population. . This work is financed by the IDB and is carried out by specialists in the area of social sciences. The intervention ends in July, it will be validated and implemented as public policy.”he said.
