Conversation brought together young people who are studying undergraduate and graduate programs.

An open and constructive dialogue on entrepreneurship, macroeconomics and innovation, among other matters of interest, was held in Antofagasta by a delegation from the Central Bank of Chile, led by its president, Rosanna Costa, during a visit to the Universidad Católica del Norte (UCN). .

The board participated in a conversational meeting with undergraduate and graduate students and members of the academic body of the Faculty of Economics and Administration (FACEA), an instance of meeting, feedback and analysis that served to strengthen mutual knowledge and contact to promote collaboration in different areas.

The activity took place within the framework of the visit that the Central Bank delegation made to the Antofagasta region on the occasion of the launch and presentation of the Monetary Policy Report (IPoM) in the area, an event organized by the Antofagasta Industrial Association ( AIA).

The meeting at the UCN included the participation of students from the Commercial Engineering major and the postgraduate programs offered by FACEA.

On the occasion, the president of the Central Bank highlighted the opportunity to be able to listen to the desires, interests and what the UCN students do. “There are people with very deep interests, with a desire to do things, and well motivated. That is very good for the country and the region.”, he highlighted.

Rosanna Costa indicated that for her entity it is important to maintain and strengthen this type of contacts. “The Central Bank draws on the best professionals in the country. We want the best in the bank and they are everywhere, including the regions. In addition, we are interested in knowing the first source regions and being close. It is true that it is an institution that is defining macroeconomic policies, which seem like distant topics, but disseminating, knowing and being close help the transmission of what we are doing to be more fluid, and that fluidity occurs not only by telling, but also by listening.”, he emphasized.

This vision was shared by the dean of FACEA, Fernando Álvarez, when highlighting the importance of the Central Bank’s visit to the UCN to address, together with the students, issues that have to do with the work carried out by the UCN. entity, such as the country’s monetary policy report and the management of inflation. “What better way to do it than with young people who are studying economics today and who are training in that discipline at our University, and who in the future will be users of this type of information.”.

He added that students will be able to contribute to the generation of public policies or the management of their companies with the information provided by the Central Bank. “We are in front of the people who prepare these types of statistics, project and are looking at the country into the future. It is a gain for our students, because they can ask questions about how these indicators are constructed, what use they can give them in their professions, and how they can contribute from the position in which they find themselves.”, he stressed.

The meeting also included the participation of undergraduate and graduate students from the UCN; the manager of Strategy and Monetary Policy of the Central Bank, Enrique Orellana; the Communications Manager of that entity, Silvana Celedón; the director of the Master’s and Doctorate program in Applied Economics with a Major in Regional Studies at the UCN, Moisés Obaco; and the head of the Commercial Engineering degree program at the study house, Diana Veneros.
