The Secretary of Mining and Energy Romina Sassarini offered a virtual exhibition within the framework of the 5th International Lithium Latin America Congress taking place in the City of Buenos Aires. The official focused her intervention on the “Potential and development of Salta mining.

In his presentation, Sassarini highlighted the implementation of the Mining Information System of the province of Salta (SIMSA), in addition to mentioning the tools, which promote the transparency of information and facilitate public access to a free online mining registry. This is accompanied by updated regulations that allow simpler procedures in evaluations and procedures related to mining.

Sassarini stressed that these advances have required an increase in the technical, human and material resources of the Ministry of Mining and Energy, managing to progressively improve in response to growing mining activity.

Likewise, he mentioned the efforts to develop suppliers and production chains, highlighting the creation of a registry of local suppliers in Salta, which already has more than 500 registered, and the implementation of specific credits for these suppliers through the Federal Council of Investments.

Mining exports in Salta have consolidated themselves as the second export complex after grains, supported by the production of Gold from the Lindero Mine. With five lithium projects in the construction phase that will begin production in the coming months, mining will be positioned as the main economic activity in the province.

Sassarini also mentioned the “Lithium Table”, a collaborative initiative between the governors of Salta, Jujuy and Catamarca to coordinate the economic and social development of lithium, which has resulted in a lithium regionalization treaty approved by the three provinces and formalized before the National Congress.

In terms of governance and sustainability, Sassarini highlighted the Plan for Sustainable Mining Development 2030, aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and validated by the Economic and Social Council of Salta. This plan includes 10 strategic axes such as the modernization of the State, the promotion of investments, social inclusion in mining and the use of renewable energies. On this last point he highlighted three mining projects that are integrating renewable energies, taking advantage of the high solar radiation in the region.

Finally, Sassarini highlighted initiatives to increase local employment, including the Local Promotion Law 8164, which requires local hiring percentages for both employment and goods and services. The province has generated 5,500 direct jobs in mining, with more than 1,000 of these held by women.

The event will last two days and a speech is planned by the president of REMSa Alberto Castillo, who will speak on “Tenders for Mining Areas in the province of Salta.”
