They say that neither the bad nor the good comes alone and is not permanent, that it goes in spurts. That is why this city, not always pampered by the gods, is now experiencing a good streak and is happily experiencing two events long awaited by the people of Córdoba. On the one hand, Córdoba CF’s promotion to Second Division, which has been a party in the stands and an even bigger one – with messers included at the end, like any self-respecting revelry – in the Plaza de las Tendillas. A new example that football is much more than a sport, it is an unblocker of passions, the greatest of patriotic reliefs. The other good news has actually only been announced and that is enough for every citizen who is even minimally sensitive to what is ours, what he has made us who we are, to finally breathe easy knowing that there will be summer cinemas. And, as everyone knows, things have been up in the air due to a convoluted process of inheritance and readaptation to the circumstances generated after the death in April 2023 of the remembered Martín Cañuelo, which made it impossible to enjoy last year of projections under the stars.
A cultural and sociological blackout, because these venues, even though they are private, belong to everyone’s sentimental heritage, which will be a bad memory from tomorrow, when two of the four existing cinemas, El Fuenseca and Delicias – the Olimpia and the Colosseum will have to wait for their opportunity. It has been achieved thanks to the good disposition of Ángel Cañuelo, nephew of Martín and recipient of a legacy wrapped in responsibility and debts that is very difficult to manage, especially if one lives in London and has nothing to do with the business received. But also the support of the City Council, juggling between the public and the private so as not to let fall a tradition rooted in Córdoba since the 1930s, pure cinematographic archeology unique in all of Andalusia and so faithful to its summer event that it did not fail even in the worst moments of the pandemic. And, of course, the step taken by businessman Antonio Amil Corredera, willing to risk the adventure, had a lot to do with the happy ending. All of this, without forgetting the constant neighborhood and media pressure, shows that when there is will, problems are solved. Let the show begin.
