In the past days of heavy rainsthe municipality of Soledad de Graciano Sánchez reported minor effects thanks to preventive coordination between various municipal and state authorities.

The Secretary General of the City Council, Benjamín Pérez Álvarez, reported that, Although the rains were intense, the planning and timely response allowed the damage to be minimized.

Prevention and coordination

Pérez Álvarez explained that the arrival of the weather phenomenon was anticipated and they worked jointly with the Directorate of Civil Protection and the Directorate of Ecology, in addition to having the support of some agencies of the state government and municipal areas such as Urban Development. This effective collaboration allowed the effects of the rains were as minor as possible compared to previous years.

“Thanks to this preventive coordination, we have not reported significant damage. Although there was puddles and some elevated water levels in vehicular arteriess, the joint response of municipal and state authorities mitigated the adverse effects,” Pérez Álvarez commented.

The Secretary General highlighted that, despite the success of the response, a lack of maintenance was evident in the water and drainage networks in various areas of the municipality. The most affected areas, such as Quintas Privadas, San Luis, 29 de Marzo and San Lorenzo, presented obstructions due to remains of mud, complicating the operation of the sewer system and the drain of rainwater.

“We are sure that a Proper preventive maintenance would have significantly mitigated the problems. We call on Interapas to fulfill its obligation to carry out these maintenance throughout the year,” Pérez Álvarez stressed.

Although there is currently no precipitation in the weather system, The municipality continues to constantly monitor vulnerable areas.

“We continue working on cleaning and assisting the population. No significant flooding in homes has been reported.and people are satisfied with the prompt reaction of the authorities,” said the official.

The joint effort of the Directorate of Ecology, Civil Protection, Urban Development and other agencies will continue to ensure that critical areas are monitored and maintained. “Coordination between the state and municipal levels is key to addressing these climate challenges,” concluded Pérez Álvarez.
