After the crisis that broke out in the afternoon of Wednesday, June 26, in Bolivia, where an attempted coup d’état was promoted, several countries spoke out rejecting military activities and calling to guarantee democracy in the government of Luis Arce.

One of those countries that joined this unison message was Colombia. Both the Foreign Ministry and President Gustavo Petro condemned the actions of some Army units “that threaten the breakdown of the constitutional order.”

Likewise, Foreign Minister Luis Gilberto Murillo, who is in Paraguay attending the 54th regular session of the General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS), assured that he will propose to that international organization a court to try “coup plotters” .

“Colombia, as a country committed to democracy, clearly and decisively supports the institutions of the brother Bolivian people and its president Luis Arce. Military coups must be reprehensible events and situations from the past and they must remain there in that painful past,” he stated.

In this sense, he added: “We have the objective of proposing to the OAS mechanisms for the prosecution of people who promote coups d’état. Our embassy and consulate are ready to attend to any request that our compatriots demand in this extraordinary situation.”
