This photograph is from today, June 27, 2024. The lapacho located in Ayacucho and Coronel Vidt is in bloom, in the middle of winter. Some speak of climate change, others of bad omens. The local poet, who knows about climates and zambas, says something else: “it is the renewal of life that is evident in the pink flower of the lapacho,” recited Daniel “Picucho” Chocobar. “That announces the end of the frosts,” he said.

The truth is that the elders say that “when another frost falls, the poor flowers will die,” said Daniel Díaz, a native of Cerrilla. “Today everything was white and it is certain that the frost will continue. That lapacho is disoriented,” he said with a wild certainty.

Other voices claim that climate change is a reality in the Lerma Valley and that the climate in Salta is becoming more “tropical” every year. The debate will continue and we will see who has more reasons.
