Riverside municipalities in the department on alert due to the increase in levels of the Magdalena River

The increase in the flow of the Magdalena River, driven by the La Niña phenomenon, has caused an alert situation in several municipalities in the department of Magdalena. Municipalities that have historically been affected by the winter season are now at risk of possible flooding.

From Salamina, Magdalena, authorities have issued alerts about the imminent dangers that residents face due to the constant rise in river levels, which could trigger emergencies in the area.

The mayor of Salamina, Edwin Pabón, has urged departmental and national emergency agencies to act immediately to protect vulnerable communities affected by La Niña. Collaboration between local authorities and state response entities is crucial to mitigate the adverse impacts of this natural phenomenon.

The same concern extends to municipalities such as Guamal, Tenerife, El Banco and Plato, among others, which are also located along the banks of the Magdalena River, where similar conditions of risk and vulnerability have been reported.

This call seeks to adequately prepare communities for the imminent threat of flooding, ensuring a coordinated and effective response to the challenges that may arise in the region.
