Within the municipal planning strategy to improve the cleanliness and cleanliness of the city, the Municipality of Viña del Mar presented 10 new trucks and machinery that will improve the service, which is added to 5 trucks previously acquired, ensuring an efficient and smooth transition. interruptions in the community’s waste collection.

This is an investment of nearly $1,000 million that will allow Viña del Mar to have high-tech trucks, replacing those that are more than 30 years old with new Mercedes brand machines, with automatic transmission, 6×2 transmission and load capacity. of 19 m³.

The presentation of the new trucks was led by Mayor Macarena Ripamonti, who was accompanied by councilors Nancy Díaz and Alejandro Aguilera, as well as directors of different municipal departments.

Mayor Ripamonti explained that “We have a procurement plan based on strategic planning. We already have 5 trucks that are municipal property. This is a new fleet of 10 trucks and now 5 more trucks are coming that will also be municipal property. We are talking about a total investment of more than $5 billion.”

“The important thing here is that the city has to be impeccable, because in 30 years there was no plan to renew the machinery and that is why the city had complications in terms of its cleanliness. Despite all that, our excellent officials went out to make the routes and gave everything they could so that the city continued to distinguish itself for being clean and now it will be even more so.”he stressed.

On the occasion, the mayor recalled that when she began her administration, the state of the fleet of municipal sanitation trucks was deplorable due to their age: “This situation meant an opportunity to deploy all our capabilities and in that we thank the Association of Municipal Drivers, Operators and Specialties (AFUCOE) that fought for this achievement for more than 25 years, both for the health and safety of the officials who are in charge of keeping our city impeccable, as well as for that of the community, especially where there are slopes and ravines.”said.

And he maintained that “It is a relief for us to be able to demonstrate with facts and actions that the money we receive today goes to where it belongs, where there are needs in the commune to have a cleaner city and cover the cleaning services that our neighbors need, especially in the hills of Viña del Mar.”

New Truck Fleet

AFUCOE leader and head of the Cleaning Department, Arturo Hughes, thanked the mayor and the City Council for their efforts: “The trucks have more than 30 years of service, very old, we were working in very bad conditions and the work could not be done properly. These 10 trucks are added to the 5 that the municipality already has, which are Volkswagens, and we are waiting for 5 more that come from the regional government, so we are very happy. They are state-of-the-art trucks, very comfortable, with seats so that we can do a better job for the community.”

For its part, the president of the Chorrillos Bajo Neighborhood Council, Juan Venegassaid he was very happy as a leader since “From now on we will not have any problems with our neighborhood sanitation, neighbors will be more comfortable seeing new trucks and the officials will also be very happy working for the community.”

The new trucks will be deployed in the following sectors of the commune with routes in: Forestal Alto, Altos de Santa Julia, Villa Independencia, Parcela Los Pinos, Edmundo Eluchans, Reñaca Costa, Nueva Aurora, Glorias Navales, Santa Julia, Reñaca Alto, Recreo Alto, Villanelo Alto, Villa Dulce, CRAV, Extension, North, Miraflores Bajo, Villa Hermosa, El Salto, Manuel Bustos and Felipe Camiroaga Camps.
