The heavy rains that were recorded this Wednesday in the department of Atlántico caused damage to municipalities such as Sabanalarga, Usiacurí, Manatí and Campo de la Cruz, who fear the arrival of more rainfall in the coming days and the increase in the levels of the Magdalena River.

In the case of the municipality of Sabanalarga, the structures of several Trees collapsed in the Ribón Avenue sectorwhile the Membrillar stream caused flooding in the Las Mercedes neighborhood, affecting the sidewalks of dozens of houses.
Meanwhile, in the Villa Concepción neighborhood, the current of the streams endangered the structure of some houses.
The Municipal Mayor’s Office reported that damage was also reported in the Nogales neighborhood, August 7, December 1, Nuevo Horizonte, Los Campanos, and Villa Carmen, due to the increase in the streams that cross these areas.

On the other hand, in the municipality of Usiacuri, certain homes suffered damage to the roofs of the structures and exterior gardens.
In Manatí, intense rains were reported for a long period of time. Mayor Yaneris Acuña expressed her concern about the effects that are being generated in various sectors and about the rise in the levels of the dam channel. “The canal levels have been averaging an increase of 1.1 meters per month and right now it is about 6.2 meters.”

In this regard, Humberto Currea, member of the Federation of Atlantic Fishermen, mentioned that the Magdalena river It reached a current level of 3.40 meters, while Dique is at 6.7 meters.
For its part, in Campo de la Cruz a public calamity was declared due to the flooding of more than 10 neighborhoods in the municipality.
