Sincelejo

The Superintendency of Surveillance and Private Security ordered the “immediate suspension of patrol activities” by a group of vigilantes in Sincelejo.

The guards were hired by the Mayor’s Office to reinforce public security and began operating less than 15 days ago with the approval of the local Police command.

The decision by the Supervigilancia comes after a visit on June 21 to the company Vipers Ltda., which provided 100 men to patrol the streets of Sincelejo in black uniforms and carrying firearms.

The suspension, classified by the Mayor’s Office as a “precautionary measure”, refers to “in general to all those [actividades] that involve the conservation and restoration of public order, as these are activities exclusively reserved for the public force in the exercise of its constitutional mission.”

In a written statement, the government entity referred to this situation as “serious” and reiterated the call to the private security and surveillance sector, as well as to contractors, to take into account that the provision of this service must adhere to Law 356 of 1994 – Private Security and Surveillance Statute.
