The Government finalizes details to apply for Argentina to host the 2030 World Cup

The Government extended jurisdiction in favor of the Swiss Arbitration Centrewithin the framework of the government guarantees necessary for the nomination of Argentina as the venue for one of the inaugural matches of the 2030 World Cup.

Looking ahead to the evaluation process that will begin in the third quarter of 2024, after FIFA already confirmed that at least one of the inaugural matches will be played in an Argentine stadium, the measure was made official through the publication in the Official bulletin of decree 547/2024.

The decree clarifies that the extension of this jurisdiction “does not imply any waiver by the Argentine Republic regarding the execution of the assets” which were detailed later.

  • “Any property belonging to the public domain located in the territory of the Argentine Republic, including those included in articles 234 and 235 of the Civil and Commercial Code of the Nation.”
  • “Any property located inside or outside Argentine territory that provides an essential public service.”
  • “Any asset (whether in the form of cash, bank deposits, securities, third party obligations or any other means of payment) of the Argentine Republic, its government agencies and other government entities related to the execution of the budget, within the scope of articles 165 to 170 of Law No. 11,672 Permanent Complementary Budget (to 2014)”.
  • “Any property covered by the privileges and immunities of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961 and the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations of 1963, including, but not limited to, property, establishments and accounts of Argentine missions.”
  • “Any property used by a diplomatic, governmental or consular mission of the Argentine Republic.”
  • “Taxes and/or royalties owed to the Argentine Republic and its rights to collect taxes and/or royalties.”
  • “Any asset of a military nature or under the control of a military authority or defense agency of the Argentine Republic.”
  • “Any asset that forms part of the cultural heritage of the Argentine Republic.”
  • “Assets protected by any applicable sovereign immunity law.”

FIFA has the final say on Argentina

In this framework, FIFA has yet to define the countries that will host the 2030 Centennial World Cup, since it anticipated that it will be in different venues in South America, Europe and Africa, but confirmation remains to be confirmed.
