Special 50% bonus requested by the unions from the Ministry of Labor is dropped

Caracol Radio learned of an official letter issued by the Administrative Department of the Presidency (DAPRE), through which the director of the entity, Laura Sarabia, assures the Minister of Labor, Gloria Inés Ramírez, that she cannot grant the special bonus for 50% compensation that had been agreed with the Ministry of Finance, for workers who are on strike.

In the letter, the DAPRE argues that the decision is exclusively the responsibility of the President of the Republic. It also states that it was aware that in the past it was known an official document issued on May 7, 2024 and issued by the Ministry of Labor in which the requested budgetary viability was denied.

Diana Peña, national president of the College of Inspectors, has denounced that the president’s refusal has prevented the granting of a bonus agreed for the workers of the Ministry of Labor. This conflict has led to a strike that continues without a solution.

“The process at present, the entity, as it has been in full public domain, is in a labor conflict and in the exercise of a workers’ strike,” stated Peña. “15 days ago the minister told us that, thanks to the efforts, it had been managed.r the payment of the bonus that was agreed for the month of March. SHowever, we were informed that all that was missing was the president’s signature to have the decree that granted us the benefit.”

The surprise came when the Administrative Department of the Presidency of the Republic (DAPRE) announced that there was no viability to grant the bonus. “What was stated by the minister and published about having obtained the bonus, “the resources and that the decree was pending for signature, in the end it was not possible because it could not materialize due to the refusal of DAPRE”Peña explained.

The strike committee, made up of 12 trade union organisations, has expressed its deep concern. “Collective agreements must be complied with. If they cannot be done, then it should not be agreed upon, because it is an assault on the workers in good faith. who seek to improve their conditions and obtain benefits that are outside the law,” Peña added.

Despite the interventions and demonstrations made by the minister to establish a permanent social dialogue table, the efforts have not been effective. The strike continues and the unions They continue to seek a solution through dialogue and agreement, despite the refusals obtained and the lack of political and administrative will.

“At this time, the strike has not been lifted in the Ministry of Labor,” Peña concluded. “We will continue knocking on doors despite the denials we have received, “The lack of a dialogue table and the lack of agreement. The unions continue to strike.”
