Strike heats up at the Ministry of Labor: The Presidency did not authorize bonuses for employees

The strike situation at the Ministry of Labor worsens after the director of the Administrative Department of the Presidency of the Republic, Dapre, Laura Sarabia, denied the request of the Ministry of Labor to create a bonus on the salary of its workers, considering that it raises salaries and that violates the internal operating rules of the State.

The bonus is the most important cause of the outbreak of the Ministry workers’ strike. His payment agreed with the union members within the framework of the negotiations with the Government in 2023 was to be paid on March 30, but it did not happen.

“The minister, When he came out to say that the bonus was already there, it was a lie. She was barely doing the management, she had even done the management “so that we would be paid in a single payment this year, that is, without a permanent nature, but rather a single payment,” said Brahyan Arévalo Villegas, labor and social security inspector and president of the union organization Asomintrabajo.

This Friday, June 28, the workers of the Ministry of Labor are going to celebrate their first month of strike and they are going to do so with a Eucharist asking that the Minister of Labor, Gloria Inés Ramírez, receive “divine enlightenment” and adopt a different attitude toward the labor conflict.

The workers complain that they have not achieved any rapprochement with the Government during the strike and say that they have not been able to establish not even the minimum services required for the entity to function.

Arévalo also says that the Ministry took months to deliver the provisions to its workers and, in addition, several of the labor inspectors, who monitor compliance with labour laws in companies have to work in unsuitable places. In some cases, they are damp or have no toilets.
