This Friday, Francis will pay tribute to José Martí at the memorial dedicated to the Cuban National Hero, located in the Plaza de la Revolución.

The diplomat’s itinerary also includes a keynote lecture at the Aula Magna of the University of Havana on the topic of “Cuba and multilateralism.”

During his stay in the Caribbean nation, the president of the UNGA will meet with President Miguel Díaz-Canel and with the Vice Minister of Public Health Tania Margarita Cruz.

Likewise, she will hold exchanges with the resident coordinator of the United Nations in Cuba, Francisco Pichón, and other members of the organization’s Country Team on the island, as well as with representatives of the Federation of Cuban Women.

Francis arrived in the Caribbean nation yesterday to review the country’s progress and contribution to multilateralism, cooperation, and ongoing regional and global challenges.

Upon his arrival at the José Martí international airport, the minister commented on his intention to develop a very detailed and comprehensive exchange on the additional measures that the UN must take to be able to advance and execute significant actions in essential aspects, such as the implementation of the Goals of Sustainable Development in Cuba.

The visit of the UNGA President will last until June 29.
