Diario Extra – Deputies ask the comptroller to investigate the mayor of San José

Eight deputies sent a letter this Thursday to the Comptroller General of the Republic, Marta Acosta, where they request an investigation into the mayor of San José, Diego Miranda, after the internal auditor of the Municipality of San José, Israel Barrantes, reported having received allegations from the new mayor, for apparent irregularities in purchases for the 2023 Festival of Light.

These actions allegedly occurred after the Municipal Audit Office filed a criminal complaint against an official of the institution, processed by the Public Prosecutor’s Office under file 24-00025-1218-PE.

After the complaint was filed, the auditor met with the mayor to update him, however, the mayor supposedly doubted the investigation carried out and supported the investigated municipal collaborator.

Given this, the auditor warned the municipal leader not to advance criteria, as the final decider of the administrative procedure. It was then that Mayor Miranda allegedly threatened the official to expel him with municipal officials.

It is for this reason that the assembly members requested a thorough investigation before the comptroller general, after the apparent irregular behavior of Diego Miranda.

“We consider that the acts attributed to the mayor must be analyzed in light of various regulations that regulate the activity of public officials,” they added.
