A yellow alert is in effect for extreme low temperatures in Santa Cruz, Chubut and Tierra del Fuego

He National Metereological Service (SMN) maintained new warnings for this Friday due to cold and low temperatures extreme for areas in the center and south of the country.

This is a yellow alert that reaches areas of San Luis, center and east of Chubut, all of it. Santa Cruz and all of Tierra del Fuego.

The yellow level alert establishes a mild to moderate effect on health, according to the SMN system. It implies, in this case, that temperatures can be dangerous, especially for risk groups, such as boys and girls, people over 65 years of age, with chronic diseases.

As detailed in the extended forecast issued by the agency, in Rio gallegos days with minimum temperatures of between 4 and 7 degrees below zero are expected.

SMN recommendations in the face of extreme temperatures

Recommendations for this type of event are provided by the Ministry of Health.

• Avoid prolonged exposure to cold outdoors. When going outside, dress warmly in many layers of light clothing.
• Generate more body heat through movement (walking, getting up and sitting down, moving your limbs, etc.).
• Keep the house safely heated.
• Avoid sudden changes in temperature, as they can cause respiratory system diseases.
• Drink plenty of fluids and avoid alcoholic beverages.
• If you are affected by the cold, do not self-medicate, consult a doctor or go to the nearest health center.
